2023 Farmers Markets

By published May 25, 2023

It’s Farmers Market Season in the Southland! With the spring and summer come the return of Farmers Markets. Visiting one of the markets in the Chicago Southland allows you to spend some time outdoors, talk with farmers and artisans, support small and independent businesses, find some one of a kind handmade items, stock up on locally-grown produce and more.

Fill in some dates on your calendar and make plans to get to several of them this season. There’s one almost every day of the week in one of the Chicago Southland communities. If you head out on a Saturday, you can make your way around the region and get to several in one day, including Homewood, Park Forest and Beecher.

Each one has a separate set of unique vendors.

Park Forest’s Farmers Market includes 36 spaces featuring local businesses with a great sampling of pieces from the creative community - ranging from artwork to garden ornaments to jewelry and more, along with food vendors, local farmers and bakers.

In Frankfort, you’ll find more than 60 vendors across two lots at the Frankfort Country Market each Sunday. The market focuses almost entirely on food and the options are wide-ranging and delicious. You’ll find produce, which is a staple at Farmers Markets, but you’ll also find scones, hot sauces, macaroons, garlic, raw honey, beef jerky, pies, gourmet marshmallows, teas, Artisan cheeses, olive oils and sauces, just to name a few. There’s also a variety of hot food items, cold beverages and desserts, so it’s like a mini food fest every week in downtown Frankfort.

In Evergreen Park, you can stop by on Thursdays to select such items as local honey and produce, but you can also get your next favorite outfit. Fashion and jewelry vendors will be on hand to help you look your best this summer.

The Farmers Market in Beecher happens on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays from May through October and there’s a large variety among the 30 or so vendors at each market. Get kettle corn, hot, freshly-made Mexican food, decorative wreaths, roasted nuts, Amish jams and much more. One unique features is that you might happen up on a live glass blowing demonstration while you’re there!

On Mondays, the weekly Crete Farmers Market takes place in conjunction with Crete Cruise Nights, so as you shop for local produce and handmade goods and grab some grub from a food truck, you can also check out vintage vehicles and hot rods.

If you make your way out the Market at the Park in Orland Park on Thursdays, be sure to bring the kids. The Market Roamers children’s program activities will keep them entertained!
